Of course I have to talk about it. It is Valentine’s day today. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the history of Valentine’s day is. It would be nice to find out, I guess.
A date of the romantic sort is out of the question for me, not that I’m complaining. My evening was interesting, to say the least. It was a rough start considering for a few minutes I was almost in tears, and my thoughts were racing in panic that my toes are going to be cut off. At that moment, my friends finally came to pick me up at the bus stop.
We went to the wedding reception of our coworker, where music was played, and words were said that none of which we understood. I remember clapping, or laughing with the people having no clue as to why. Everything was in Spanish. I wish I understood, but the money spent for beginner and intermediate Spanish classes in college went down the drain right after I passed the course.
Sometime in the middle of the chaos, they asked us to stand up. “It’s just us girls,” our other coworker, who also happens to be the bride’s sister, said. So stand, we did. We were waiting a while as I see a line of ladies form, holding hands with each other. At first I thought it was some type of line dance. I just did not understand why the bride, and the groom were each standing on a chair, and a few people holding them for support.
When the music finally started, we ran. Someone was taking the lead, and we were just running across the reception area. In between guests, in between the bride and groom, and around the bride. I think the goal was to push the bride off the chair, don’t ask me why. But that was also what the men did when it was their turn, and unlike us, they succeeded in knocking off the groom.
